SCENE opens one evening as Rachel, an 18-year-old virgin, sits opposite her step-father at the dining room table. They are eating their meal in relative silence, with only the occasional exchange of pleasantries. Both dad and daughter are dressed modestly and use proper manners while eating. You get the feeling that it is a very conservative household. After he has finished, dad wipes his mouth with his napkin and offers to put the plates away.
